Charges Dropped Against Kanye West

  • Posted by admin on 30 January 2010
  • With the completion of his fifty-hours of community service, charges against Grammy-winning artist Kanye West & his manager Don Crowley have been dimissed.

West was officially charged last March for a physical altercation involving a TMZ photographer at the LAX Airport in 2008 (he pleaded not guilty). The charges included three misdemeanor counts of vandalism, grand theft and battery. Crowley was charged with two counts each of vandalism, grand theft and battery.

On Friday, Blair Burke & Shawn Chapman Holley (respective legal representation for West & Crowley) presented documentation in a Los Angeles courtroom of their clients’ completion of their duties to the Red Cross.

Deputy L.A. City Attorney Felton Newell counter argued the case being classified as ‘overcharged.’ Video of the incident demonstrates ‘intent to commit a felony.’ Berk (representing West) noted that TMZ did not pursue charges against West due to West’s reimbursement of the damaged camera.

The judge felt compelled to cease the argument if TMZ did not want to pursue the matter further. However, noting West’s behavior as unacceptable, the defendants were mandated to enroll in an anger management program and serve fifty-hours of community service.

If convicted, West would have served up to two years and six months in jail, while Crawley would have faced up to five years.
