Atlantic Records artist, Plies, and his formed record label, Big Gates Records, is being sued for involvement in a 2006 Gainesville, FL nightclub shooting.
The suit (filed in Alachua Country Circuit Court) has been filed by five victims. Their legal council is arguing the rapper’s intent for using lyrical references to depict the specifics of the incident to generate financial profit and strengthen his street credibility as a gansta rapper at their expense (they are not plagued by life-threatening injuries).
Pleading no contest to illegal possession of concealed weapons, Plies was pardoned from prison time. Rather, his brother, Ronell “Big Gates” Lavette (and two other members of his entourage) pleaded no contest and faced prison sentences. Lavette was charged with six counts of attempted murder, after opening up fire over a performance dispute during a Plies & Lil’ Boosie concert. He accepted a plea bargain of three years behind bars. He was released last April.
