Malcolm D. Lee’s ‘Strung’ Pairs Chlöe Bailey and Lynn Whitfield in New Psychological Thriller

Director Malcolm D. Lee is stepping into psychological thriller territory with “Strung,” a forthcoming film centered on ambition, wealth, and mounting paranoia.

The film stars Chlöe Bailey as a talented violinist who lands a prestigious position tutoring the gifted daughter of a wealthy and enigmatic family. As she becomes immersed in the family’s luxurious world, unsettling secrets begin to surface, forcing her to question her safety, her future, and her grip on reality.

Lynn Whitfield is set to portray the family’s commanding matriarch, a figure whose influence and mystery loom over the story as tensions intensify within the household.

“Strung” is described as a character-focused thriller that mixes psychological tension with themes of class, obsession, and ambition. The plot takes place in a wealthy environment, where the violinist’s dream job slowly becomes a threat.

The project marks another evolution for Lee, whose career has spanned comedy, drama, and ensemble storytelling. With “Strung,” the filmmaker appears to lean into a more intimate and suspense-focused narrative style.

Bailey continues to expand her acting career following a string of screen appearances that showcased her dramatic range alongside her music success. Whitfield, long regarded for her commanding performances across film and television, brings added weight to the production as the family’s imposing matriarchal presence.

The movie arrives on Peacock June 26 and is already drawing attention for its pairing of Bailey and Whitfield in a story built around psychological tension, hidden motives, and the unsettling cost of proximity to power.
