Former NBA center Dwight Howard filed for divorce from his wife, Amber Howard, also known as rapper Amy Luciani, according to court records reported by multiple media outlets.
The filing occurred March 9 in Georgia. Court documents state the marriage is “irretrievably broken,” a standard legal description used in divorce petitions.
The couple married Jan. 11, 2025. Media reports say both parties sought to end the marriage the same day, though Howard’s filing reached the court first.
The divorce action followed a series of public social media posts from Amber Howard that described disputes inside the household. Some outlets also reported police responses to the couple’s residence in recent weeks. Authorities have not released detailed findings about the calls.
Howard, 40, entered the NBA as the No. 1 overall selection in the 2004 draft by the Orlando Magic. The center became one of the league’s dominant interior defenders and rebounders during his prime.
He earned eight All-Star selections and won three consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards from 2009 through 2011. Howard later won an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
Across 18 NBA seasons, Howard averaged 15.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
In 2025, Howard was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, recognizing a career that included more than 14,000 points and 14,000 rebounds.
The divorce case remains pending in Georgia court. Neither Howard nor Amber Howard issued a detailed public statement on the filing as of Tuesday.
