Isiah Whitlock Jr., an American actor best known for his work on HBO’s crime drama The Wire and the political comedy Veep, has died. His manager confirmed the news late Tuesday in New York. He was 71.
Whitlock gained widespread attention for his portrayal of Maryland State Sen. R. Clayton “Clay” Davis on The Wire. This role became iconic for both its dramatic impact and a memorable catchphrase used in key scenes.
His career spanned decades and included roles in films directed by Spike Lee, as well as appearances on television series such as Veep, Your Honor, and The Residence.
