R&B singer-songwriter Crystal Tamar released her new single, “Whachoo Doin?!,” on June 19, delivering a female empowerment anthem that blends her Houston roots with the influence of Northern California.
Produced by Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum producer Kosine, the track pairs chopped-and-screwed production with a message encouraging women to set boundaries while dating.
“‘Whachoo Doin?!’ is somewhat of a woman’s summer battle cry,” Tamar said. “We’re tired of dudes walking up to us wild, so I’m gonna tell it. I want people to laugh their heads off, blow their speakers out, and carry that hook with them in their day-to-day lives because we all have reason to ask ‘Whachoo Doin?!’”
Tamar said the song draws inspiration from Ari Lennox, Rihanna, and Michael Jackson.
“Whachoo Doin?!” is the first single from Tamar’s upcoming EP, This Changes Everything, due this fall. Kosine, who produced four songs on the project, praised Tamar’s creative instincts and dedication to her craft.
