Barbershop Series Headed To Prime Video With Ensemble Cast

A Barbershop television series is in development at Prime Video, extending the franchise that began with the 2002 film. Producers have confirmed details about the project, including its story, cast, and creative team, as production moves forward.

The series does not yet have a premiere date. Prime Video has not announced a release window, with more information expected in the months ahead.

The story centers on Travis “Trav” Porter, played by Jermaine Fowler, who hopes to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, a barber known for his role at Calvin’s barbershop in Chicago. While the barbers are new, the shop remains a meeting place for the neighborhood, where customers gather for conversation and haircuts. The series continues the Barbershop universe introduced in the original film, which starred Ice Cube.

Fowler leads the cast, joined by series regulars Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., and E.J. Bonilla. Bokeem Woodbine, Bresha Webb, Langston Kerman, and Tiana Okoye will appear in recurring roles. Variety reported that guest stars for the season include Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli.

Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original Barbershop film, is writing the series and executive producing alongside showrunner Max Searle. Executive producers also include Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, Bradley Garner, Cameron Burnett, Autumn Bailey-Ford, George Tillman Jr., and Robert Teitel. Tiffany Brown will serve as co-producer. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Further updates on the Barbershop series are expected as development continues.
