Interview: Artist/Producer Sean 2Miles

Sean 2miles

Versatility as an artist is an important trait to have in order to be significant and gain longevity within one’s career. Other than fluidity amongst the genres, this includes background work such as songwriting, producing and engineering. Sean 2Miles has found his way to the microphone after working as a producer and engineer.

This has got to be an exciting time for you as you are coming into your own as a performer. How would you describe your sound?
I would describe it as bluesy, I come from a blues and a hip hop background. So you just dropped your new project, Heartaches & Turn ups.

Given the name of the title, would you say that fans can expect to hear some emotional content along with music that they can party to?
Definitely, got a little bit of everything. The ying and the yang. There’s something for everybody on it.

Being from Farmhaven, Mississippi, who and what inspired you as your grew up? What inspires you now?
A lot of blues artists like Johnny Taylor and BB King. I also looked up to Tupac. My parents influenced my exposure to blues music. Today, my two kids inspire me. I do it for them. I have an 8-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter.

Would you ever want them to be in the music industry as well?
If they choose to. Their mother also works in the music industry so they’re surrounded by it.

What was the process like for you as you were working on this record?
I was going through a lot of emotional phases, the album came up accidently. I realized in like two weeks that I had a lot of songs. I didn’t expect to be an artist, but I felt like it was too personal to give away.

Are you currently working on music for other artists?
Yup, I’m working on a couple of pieces for some indie artists like Anisha Gwen and Gshytt. Gshytt is an international artist from Brazil, he’s already charting.

What would you say sets you apart from other producers?
I care about the overall aspects of the song. The production, arranging, mixing, lyrical content. I care about the whole aspect of the song. I look at people like Quincy and Dr. Dre , how they were in the studio. A lot of producers only care about the beat.

When it comes to your music, what are some of your goals for the future?
Right now, just making it as far as it can go. I’ve always been an artist behind an artist.

If anyone asks the question of who is Sean 2Miles, what would you say?
I’d say I’m a down to earth, relentless attitude type of individual. I’m a gemini. There are two sides of me, in a good way. I’m definitely a creator.
