Jon Stewart Tackles Calm Jan. 6 Certification, Media Spin on Violence, and Online Radicalization

Jon Stewart kicked off 2025 with a spotlight on the unusually calm Jan. 6 election certification, contrasting it with the turmoil of previous years. On his show, Stewart called the proceedings “a welcome change,” praising the absence of major disruptions.

He also criticized right-wing media for attempting to link a recent violent attack on Bourbon Street to immigration, despite no evidence connecting the two. Stewart dismissed the framing as “a baseless distraction” from addressing broader issues driving violence.

In another segment, Stewart examined the ordinary online habits of recent terrorists, noting their activity on widely used platforms. He raised concerns about how the internet enables radicalization and questioned whether enough is being done to address extremist content online.
