Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and social media figure, sparked widespread backlash after posting a tweet in which she insulted Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) using racially charged language.
The post came in response to Crockett’s remarks on CNN’s State of the Union, in which the congresswoman criticized her colleagues’ vote on a resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Crockett said she was pained that most of the members who voted “no” were people of color, citing her belief that Kirk’s rhetoric had often targeted those communities.
Loomer responded by reposting the segment and writing, “It hurts my heart that we have ghetto black bitches who hate America serving in Congress.”
The tweet was met with condemnation by many, including civil rights groups and political commentators, who called the comment racist and degrading toward Crockett and Black women more broadly.
Some conservative voices defended Loomer’s right to free speech, arguing that she was reacting to what she perceived as divisive rhetoric from Crockett. Others within the party criticized the tone and language used, saying they crossed the line of decency.
This incident adds to a pattern of provocative and racially charged remarks by Loomer.
Crockett’s original comments, which prompted Loomer’s attack, focused on the vote in Congress over the resolution for Kirk. She expressed concern that many white lawmakers appeared unwilling to acknowledge harmful rhetoric toward people of color. The resolution to honor Kirk was passed by the House on Sept. 19.
