Misa Hylton Says Lawsuit Against Mary J. Blige Took a “Significant Toll” on Her Mental Health

Misa Hylton has spoken publicly after a New York judge dismissed the $5 million lawsuit she filed against Mary J. Blige, ending a legal dispute that strained a relationship that spanned more than 30 years.

In a statement shared with Loren Lorosa, Hylton said the case affected her mental health and led her to reconsider how she handles personal and business relationships.

“Over the years, there have been people very close to me who have hurt me deeply, and I chose not to pursue them even when I could have, and maybe should have,” Hylton wrote. She said reflecting on her history with Blige caused her to question why she approached this situation differently. “That reflection led me to ask myself why I would choose a different path for someone I once called my sister.”

In the decision, Judge Phaedra F. Perry criticized the handling of the case, writing, “The court in no way condones parties filing lawsuits claiming millions in damages based on inflammatory accusations, only to have those very same parties abandon their allegations when faced with a motion to dismiss and sanctions.”

Hylton’s lawsuit accused Blige of breaching contracts connected to rapper Vado, claiming the actions led to financial harm. Blige denied the allegations and previously described the lawsuit as “frivolous.”

The dismissal allows for the possibility of refiling, though Hylton’s statement suggests she is focused on moving forward rather than continuing the legal fight.
