New York Attorney General Letitia James said her office’s Election Protection Hotline will again operate for the Nov. 4, 2025, general election.
James said the hotline is intended to troubleshoot and resolve issues voters encounter with absentee ballots, early mail ballots, or in-person voting. “Our right to vote is the foundation of our democracy, and every voter should be able to freely exercise that right,” James said. “My office will be available on Election Day to help anyone who faces challenges voting and will continue working to protect free and fair elections throughout New York State.”
The hotline number is (866) 390-2992.
Phones will be staffed 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Election Day and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Written requests may be submitted at any time through the online complaint form.
The Attorney General’s office said calls and written requests are handled by OAG attorneys and staff. Election Protection Hotline operations began in 2012. The office said in previous cycles it has taken legal action to protect against voter registration purges and to ensure access to early voting as required by law.
All registered voters retain the right to accessible elections. Poll sites are required to remain open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters in line before closing must be allowed to cast a ballot.
The office will receive and respond to complaints connected to statutes it enforces, including the New York Voting Rights Act. A voter FAQ guide is also available to assist with questions on absentee ballots, early mail ballots, and voter registration.
