Saweetie to Headline International Dance League Global Debut in New York

A new chapter in competitive performance will begin May 2 with the global launch of the International Dance League, billed as the first professional league dedicated to dance.

The debut event will take place at Hammerstein Ballroom and feature a halftime performance by rapper Saweetie, organizers said.

The league will bring together elite dance crews from several countries in a format designed to mirror established sports circuits while emphasizing performance, choreography, and audience engagement.

Among the featured groups is Parris Goebel’s Royal Family, led by choreographer Parris Goebel, whose work includes major live productions such as a Super Bowl halftime show for Rihanna. Also scheduled to appear is 1MILLION Dance Studio, known for collaborations with K-pop acts including BLACKPINK.

U.S.-based crew The Brotherhood, recognized for winning “World of Dance,” will also compete.

Organizers said the event will draw high-profile attendees, including TikTok and YouTube creators, entertainers, and industry figures. The league aims to position dance alongside established global sports properties such as the National Basketball Association, Formula 1, and the PGA Tour.

“With over 800 billion #Dance views across TikTok and YouTube, dance is one of the most powerful drivers of global culture today,” organizers said in a statement. “IDL formalizes the space, creating a professional league and offering audiences a front-row seat to the next wave of viral culture.”

The competition format is expected to emphasize high-energy routines and moments designed for social media sharing, reflecting the growing role of digital platforms in shaping performance trends.

The International Dance League said additional events and global expansion plans will be announced following the New York launch.
