SZA has responded to Nicki Minaj’s recent criticism by sharing evidence of the rapper’s prior interest in working together.
The public back-and-forth escalated this week after Minaj accused SZA of being fake and dishonest in a series of posts on X. SZA replied by posting a screenshot of a conversation from 2020 showing Minaj reaching out through SZA’s former manager, Terrance “Punch” Henderson, to request a collaboration.
“Nicki. You absolutely know my music and what I contribute cause you’ve asked for features twice to no response,” SZA wrote. “In addition to rapping my lyrics on ‘Feeling Myself’, ‘Cooking up the bass looking like a kilo’? Lol ur having a moment ..im not sure why but be blessed.”
SZA is credited as a writer on “Feelin’ Myself,” Minaj’s song with Beyoncé. The screenshot shows Minaj asking if SZA was recording and mentioning she had a hook she thought SZA would sound good on. According to the messages, Henderson told Minaj to send the idea over, but the collaboration never moved forward as SZA was focused on her own project.
Henderson confirmed the conversation during a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, stating that Minaj’s outreach did happen, but nothing came of it. He also expressed surprise at the sudden feud between the two artists.
The newly shared information highlights past professional interactions between Minaj and SZA, offering a different perspective from the recent public dispute. Fans continue to follow updates as the situation develops.
