Tisha Campbell Martin Reveals Tommy’s Real Job

It’s been a mystery since the first season of Martin Lawrence’s self-titled smash comedy show.

No one really ever knew what the character Tommy did for a living… until now.

Tisha Campbell-Martin disclosed the character’s occupation during an interview with Bossip today.

“So Tommy talks about him being in the Boys & Girls Club. He was a counselor at the Boys & Girls Club. That’s what he did for a living,” Campbell-Martin said.

According to her, the long-running onscreen joke began when fellow cast member Thomas Mikal Ford took issue with his character Tommy’s lack of backstory.

“Tommy was complaining, ‘I don’t think they’re developing my character enough. No one knows what I do for a job; they keep asking me what I do! So then they started putting in the script that Tommy has no job.”

Ford, who never really found the image of being unemployed funny, once said,”For me, the biggest insult I could imagine was a man who had no job.”
