Tyler Perry Reunites ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ Ensemble for Netflix Sequel

Tyler Perry is bringing a familiar group of friends back together for another wedding—and another examination of love, family, and marriage.

“Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?” premieres Sept. 9 on Netflix, marking the third film in Perry’s relationship-centered franchise and its first installment since 2010’s “Why Did I Get Married Too?” Perry wrote, directed, produced, and stars in the film, with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland also producing.

The film reunites Perry with Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, and Sharon Leal. Taraji P. Henson joins the ensemble alongside a younger cast that includes Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith II, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.

This time, the group heads to Lake Como, Italy, for the wedding of Jasmine, played by Greer, and Wesley, played by Osborne. Jasmine is the daughter of Angela and Marcus, played by Smith and White, while Henson plays Roselyn, Wesley’s mother and a longtime friend of the group.

The celebration reunites the friends after time apart, but the arrival of their now-grown children forces them to confront an uncomfortable truth: The younger generation has inherited some of the same relationship patterns they struggled with themselves.

Perry told People that reuniting with the returning cast “felt like putting on a warm robe.” He said bringing the characters’ children into the story offered a way to examine how parents shape their children’s ideas about relationships and marriage.

The original “Why Did I Get Married?” was released in 2007 and followed four college friends and their spouses on a retreat where marital problems and infidelities surfaced. A sequel followed in 2010.

The new installment extends Perry’s relationship with Netflix and reunites him with Henson, who starred in his 2025 Netflix drama “Straw.”

“Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?” begins streaming Sept. 9, 2026, on Netflix. Watch the trailer today.
