R&B artist Inayah is back with a track built for warm weather, late drives, and reclaiming your peace. Today, the singer-songwriter released her new single and music video, “Outside,” via EMPIRE, pairing candid storytelling with a mood built for the season.
Known by fans as a “musical therapist,” Inayah leans into honesty and healing on the new release. “Outside” blends her direct lyricism with smooth vocals, creating a record that feels both personal and ready for repeat play.
The song also features an interpolation of Lil Mo’s classic “4eva,” with approval from Lil Mo herself—a nod that connects eras of R&B while giving the new single added weight.
Production comes from Ghost Note, DeezyBaby and Starchild Yeezo, who shape a soundtrack fit for daytime windows-down rides and nights that stretch past midnight. The result is a song with clear summer anthem ambitions.
The music video continues the story from Inayah’s “Choose.” After the emotional ending of that video, “Outside” changes the mood. Instead of remaining in heartbreak, Inayah reaches out to her friends, gets ready, and goes out for the night. It represents a shift from sadness to action and from uncertainty to confidence.
Both “Choose” and “Outside” were directed by City James, known for work including Kehlani’s “Folded” and Wale’s “Max Julien.” His visual approach helps carry the emotional continuity between the two releases.
Inayah said the message behind the song centers on choosing yourself when love turns draining.
“‘Outside’ is all about choosing joy and self-worth over pain and arguments. I want listeners to feel empowered to live their truth and remember that even when you’re going through it in your relationship, you have the power to choose when it’s time to step outside.”
