Lís Bryant, owner of Baked By Lís, is known nationwide for her cookies and cupcakes. In this interview, she shares how it all started, what inspires her baking, and what she’s learned on the journey.
What inspired you to turn your passion for baking into a full-fledged brand with Baked by Lís?
The support around me was a big factor. Baking was an outlet for my creativity and a time to be present in the moment. I ended up with a lot of extra treats to give away, and that turned into requests and then orders, which was my indication that I was in the right lane and should take this seriously.
Can you share the moment you realized you were ready to transition from home baker to business owner?
As orders grew, there were more inquiries about ordering and a website, and I think everything just fell into place for me to take those next steps.
What sets Baked by Lís apart in such a competitive dessert market?
Unless there is a sale with limited availability, everything is made to order. There is always the option to customize your order, from design to flavor and inclusions. You’re getting a fresh treat with real ingredients and a personal touch.
How did you develop your signature recipes, and what’s the crowd favorite so far?
I leaned into the flavors I grew up on. Remixing old recipes has been something that’s worked for me. The chocolate chip cookies are a top favorite. They’re also what kicked off the business.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during the launch, and how did you push through them?
Creating a menu has been my biggest challenge. Many of the items I sell are custom, and I wanted to make sure that was still an option.
How has your personal story shaped the heart and mission behind Baked by Lís?
I think my baking business has grown with me and continues to do so. The way I began baking was a personal journey that I’ve been able to share with others. Custom orders often allow for challenges to broaden how I think and create.
What role has community support played in getting your brand off the ground?
I couldn’t have gotten it off the ground without everyone who has supported me. Without those who would taste test for me, buy my products, share my sales, or refer others, I wouldn’t have been able to take this anywhere.
How are you balancing creativity in the kitchen with the demands of running a business?
There is the option of customizing every order, from the flavors to the design. Every holiday, there is some sort of package deal where I can get creative in presentation, and often I’m throwing in a free new product with that package. Many of the sales and promotions outside of holidays are for a new product.
As a successful entrepreneur, what advice would you give to someone who has a passion project but hasn’t made the first move yet?
I’d tell them to just take the first step. You’re your own worst critic. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect, but taking that first step gives you somewhere to start from. The easiest way to fail is to not take action.
Your baked goods are extraordinarily delicious. What’s next for Baked by LÌs? Are there new flavors, pop-ups, or expansions on the horizon?
There are always new flavors. I’ll be pulling the summer ice pops and drinks out soon. I’m also looking into shipping.
