Charlamagne Tha God gave music executive Ray Daniels the “Donkey of the Day” designation Tuesday after Daniels claimed that a new Jay-Z album had been wrapped up, prompting a public denial from Roc Nation.
The segment aired Aug. 11 on The Breakfast Club, where Charlamagne regularly uses the “Donkey of the Day” feature to single out people he believes have made particularly questionable decisions or remarks.
The show’s official posting said Daniels received the recognition for making a false claim about a Jay-Z album and noted that Roc Nation had responded.
Daniels had discussed the alleged album on his podcast, The Raydar Report. According to reports on the controversy, Daniels said Jay-Z’s album was “completely done” but suggested its release could depend on whether the rapper found a business partner.
Charlamagne also referenced an alleged past conversation he had with Daniels where the latter admitted to saying things for the sole purpose of garnering attention in hopes of opportunities within the music industry.
Roc Nation subsequently pushed back on the claim, responding on social media with the words “Fake news,” according to multiple reports.
There has been renewed public interest in the rapper’s music since he celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt, but no official announcement has confirmed a forthcoming album, title, or release date.
