Tell us about your latest book “Reset & Reboot
Rest & Reboot is a self-help inspirational short read. It has eighty-five pages; In the book I speak about the importance of detoxing, the power of manifestation, living life with a purpose, and mastering the art of self-care and discipline. Throughout the book, I share personal stories about mental health and overcoming an illness. I started drafting the book back in 2018, so it is three years of in the making; After I had a TIA which is a minor stroke. I started with a morning journal, but I had written so much that I felt like I needed to do something with this writing and then it turned into the book. Which turned into a motivational book, the goal is to help people be aware of their mental health. I speak about the importance of keeping up with doctors’ appointments, self-days, meditation, yoga, detoxing but not just what I ate but also detoxing myself from people- not because they were bad- but because they were not good for me. I feel certain times through our lives we are going to have to detox people from our lives because they are not taking the right directions in life.

What was the realization in your life that you write “Reset & Reboot”?
On May 1st, 2018; I had a TIA which is a stroke and obviously after that I had to stay in the hospital for a few days. I found out I had a brain aneurysm which caused the stroke. It was a time where I was very confused and lost, I had a lot of questions I did not know what a brain aneurysm or TIA was. So, it was a time where I did a lot of research and writing; it became my form of therapy. Because of that situation is why I started writing. I started with a morning journaling it became a book. As you read it you can tell from the first few chapters I was really confused and depressed to the point where I could not get up from bed and then towards the end you can see where I am now. The growth of becoming a better person and growing my relationship with God.

Why do you feel it is important to shed light on mental health?
Society downplays mental health as if it is not the most important aspect of our life. When you think about it, when your mentals are not in the right place everything is malfunctioning. The reason I wanted to bring awareness is to let people know that they are not alone when it comes to mental health. Everyone at one point in society goes through: depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. It is how you handle it by being responsible for it. I want people to be more aware. I want people to know that they are not alone and that if you seek help, you will get the help, but you have first to come to your realization to understand that I do have a problem; now the question is what I am going to do with this problem I am just going to ignore it or am I going to be an adult into something about it.

As a Latina, why did you feel that speaking about mental was a taboo topic growing up?
Well growing up, I was raised in an old-school household; my parents are like in their 70s. I remember I could not explain why I was not feeling well. I was not hurt like physically hurt it was more like I am not feeling well. They will be like well, what do you mean you do not feel well? You have food in the house, and you go to school. I will tell them like I just do not feel right; my heart does not feel well. They knew what I was talking about, but it was like a taboo topic; it is like they knew that kids had issues and they were not open about it. I feel because of the lack of education they could not really explain to their kids why they were sad or lonely.

How do you feel about young Latina girls going through the same thing by dealing with depression and anxiety and feeling they have no support?
That is a very touchy subject, I want to build a community regarding allowing the younger generation to know that they do have support. I want to help them become aware of their feelings and dissect what is going on in their lives that is making them feel this way and what they do not like. From there find out what they love to do and speak about my experiences because there’s still days that I feel sad, or I do not feel the greatest, it is just human nature. These days I tend to just go, and you know what I am going to put makeup on, because subconsciously you are allowing yourself to change the direction on feeling better. Self-care day you can do something you enjoy like getting your nails done or going to art galleries. I do not encourage people to drink or go to parties because that is a temporary solution. For the younger generation I want to remind them association is everything, surround yourself with motivated people because their motivation will allow you to be motivated with your own projects; life is so much more than what is on social media. Society says if you do not look a certain way, you are not beautiful. That has a lot to do with these younger girls’ depression and body dysmorphia. Be who you truly are not what you want others to perceive you as; Be a leader.

What was it like going on a spiritual cleansing?
Powerful; I started the cleanse even with food was amazing for many reasons. I call it a spiritual detox; I take the time to pray and set intentions and stay away from the chaos that is outside. I see the body as a computer; if you leave your computer on for six to nine months, the battery will just crash. The same thing happens to your body and brain. If you do not reset and reboot that is going to happen. Personally, I fast once or twice a week for 24 hours especially after those days I feel like I did not eat too good. I will drink water for that entire day; I have trained myself to become disciplined. It is more of a spiritual thing for me; some people drink detox juices well water is my detox juice. I would not have my phone on me for that day, so I can stay away from social media and enjoy nature. I have this part of my house where I can sit next to my plants and talk to them.

What do you feel is your purpose in your life, and how did you find it?
Recently, I found out that my purpose is to empower women. I want to be a powerful voice for the younger generation. I am an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, and one day I decided to quit my 9-5 and be my own boss. I built my company “Elite Vision Media” which is one of the PR firms for the Latino Market. I take pride in that: while doing that I found my purpose. My calling now is empowering women. There is a lot of separation between women because we are competitive but when we come together, it can be a strong community.

How has the power of manifestation helped you to get where you are now?
It has helped me a lot; my biggest flex today is manifesting everything I said what I was going to do. A lot of people have the wrong idea of what manifesting is. You can pray to God and say I am going to get a job but sit down and not work for it and that’s thing if you want something you have to put in the effort. Manifesting is your subconscious attracting what you want; that comes through the law of attraction. I educated myself about it. I also say I am powerful and using powerful words, Saying I am great, beautiful, and smart is powerful sometimes I put those things on my wall so I can see it when I wake up. Also, visualizing the things I want by doing that. It is a reminder of what you are working for.
