Kid Cudi has removed M.I.A. from his “Rebel Ragers Tour” following a series of onstage comments that drew boos from audiences and prompted fan complaints across social media.
The decision came after a Dallas performance where M.I.A., born Mathangi Arulpragasam, made political remarks during her opening set. Audience members reacted with loud disapproval, according to attendees and video clips shared online.
Shortly after the show, Cudi announced via Instagram that M.I.A. would no longer appear on the tour. He said he had previously set expectations with her team about avoiding content that could be seen as offensive and that he had received a wave of complaints from fans after recent performances.
“I won’t have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase,” Cudi wrote in his statement, according to reporting and screenshots of the post.
M.I.A. later responded publicly, including comments published by Variety addressing her removal from the lineup. She said:
“I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.”
The comment referenced her onstage remarks that had already drawn controversy at the Dallas show.
The tour, which features multiple support acts, continues its scheduled dates without M.I.A. Neither Cudi’s team nor M.I.A.’s representatives have announced further changes to the tour lineup.
