After the disheartening news of the great Chadwick Boseman’s passing, fans can continue appreciating his talents in a new film.

This weekend, Netflix announced all the details on Boseman’s closing piece.

With Academy Award-winner Viola Davis as his co-star, the two will combine their talents in a movie adaption of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Based on acclaimed August Wilson’s 1982 award winning play; viewers will get the chance to see life through then Black-American lens during 20th century Chicago. The story follows issues of race, religion, art, and the trials Black recording artists faced while being exploited by white producers.

“Tensions rise between Ma Rainey (Davis), her ambitious horn player (Boseman) and the white management determined to control the uncontrollable ‘Mother of the Blues’.” -IMDB

Recognizing Boseman’s predilection for playing Black historical figures in films such as 42, Get Up, and Marshall (Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and Thurgood Marshall respectively); his farewell movie role seems fitting.

Though Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom will be his final appearance on our screens, fans will have the chance of hearing his voice one last time in Disney+’s upcoming animated series Marvel What If…? as the beloved King of Wakanda, Black Panther’s T’Challa.

You can catch Chadwick Boseman’s closing performance December 18th on Netflix.
