Grammy-nominated R&B and soul singer Eric Roberson will perform at the Urban League of Union County’s 82nd Anniversary Gala, “An Emerald Era: Legacy Revealed,” on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield.
The black-tie masquerade gala, scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m., will celebrate the organization’s 82 years of service while raising funds for programs in housing, workforce development, reentry, youth development, health and wellness, violence prevention, and community engagement.
Roberson, a Rahway, New Jersey, native and Howard University alumnus, has built a career as an independent singer, songwriter, and producer. He has earned two Grammy nominations, including recognition for “A Tale of Two” in 2010 and “Still” in 2011.
He has also written and produced music for artists including Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Dwele, and Vivian Green, while releasing more than a dozen independent albums during his career.
“For 82 years, the Urban League of Union County has worked to empower individuals and families by providing access to resources, advocacy, education, and opportunities designed to help communities thrive. ‘An Emerald Era: Legacy Revealed’ will honor that history while helping generate critical resources to continue the work for generations to come,” said Crystal Orr, CEO and president of the Urban League of Union County.
The gala will also honor Leslie Anderson with the Ella S. Teal President’s Award and Brielle Lewis with the Whitney M. Young Jr. Young Professional Award. KOBO and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will receive Corporate Partner Awards.
Dr. Bibi Taylor will receive the Community Partner Award, while Roy Maynard will receive the Donna L. Alexander Urban League Award.
The Segdrick Marsh Band will provide live music, and Cartayah Hawkins Reid will serve as master of ceremonies. The evening will also include a silent auction.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Reworld are among the sponsors supporting the event.
