Nicki Minaj Faces Online Backlash After Appearing With Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry

Nicki Minaj’s appearance alongside Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry at a White House event Monday drew criticism across social media, with many fans citing the Republican governor’s record on voting rights and other issues as they questioned the rapper’s continued association with conservative political figures.

Photos shared from the White House luncheon showed Minaj standing with Landry during an event promoting the Trump administration’s “Trump Accounts” investment program for children. The images spread quickly online, where critics pointed to Landry’s political record as governor and previously as Louisiana’s attorney general.

Among the issues raised by critics was Landry’s role in Louisiana’s long-running congressional redistricting fight. Voting rights organizations have accused Republican leaders in the state of pursuing district maps that dilute Black voting strength, while Landry has defended the state’s redistricting decisions as lawful and consistent with court rulings. The dispute has produced years of litigation over compliance with the federal Voting Rights Act and reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

The backlash reflected broader frustration among some of Minaj’s fan base, which has increasingly questioned the rapper’s public appearances with Republican officials and the Trump administration.

Several users on X and Instagram said they were disappointed to see Minaj alongside Landry, whose conservative agenda has also included restrictions on LGBTQ+ issues in schools, expanded criminal justice enforcement, and other policies opposed by civil rights advocates.

Neither Minaj nor Landry publicly responded to the criticism Monday.

The appearance adds to Minaj’s increasingly public engagement with conservative politics. She appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in late 2025 and has since attended multiple events connected to President Donald Trump’s administration.
