Peacock has released the official trailer for “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming prequel series expanding the “Friday the 13th” horror franchise.
The eight-episode series premieres Oct. 15, with all episodes available to stream on Peacock.
“Crystal Lake” stars Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees, the mother of Jason Voorhees, whose death becomes the catalyst for the events that have defined the franchise for decades.
Set before the original 1980 “Friday the 13th” film, the series follows Pam as she struggles with grief nearly a year after her young son drowned in Crystal Lake. Her life takes another turn when two strangers arrive at her door asking questions about her past, setting off events that begin to unsettle the surrounding town.
The trailer offers viewers a closer look at Pam’s life before the events associated with Camp Crystal Lake, including scenes surrounding Jason’s drowning and the emotional fallout that follows. Peacock released the official trailer Sept. 13.
Cardellini leads a cast that also includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.
Brad Caleb Kane serves as creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer. His credits include “It: Welcome to Derry,” “Tokyo Vice,” and “Warrior.”
The series is produced by A24 and expands the mythology surrounding one of horror’s most recognizable franchises by shifting much of the focus toward Pam Voorhees and the circumstances that preceded the killings associated with Crystal Lake.
The original “Friday the 13th,” released in 1980, introduced audiences to Camp Crystal Lake and established Pamela Voorhees as a central figure in the franchise. Jason Voorhees would later become the series’ signature antagonist across numerous sequels.
“Crystal Lake” marks the franchise’s move into serialized television while exploring the family tragedy at the center of its story.
