PR strategist and industry veteran Anje Pearson has released a new book that argues the public relations business model many agencies rely on is breaking down.
The book, PR Is Dead (And Other Lies You Tell Yourself), is now available through Amazon in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover formats via Rogers Pearson Publishing.
Pearson, known in the public relations field as Anje Collins, spent four decades working across music, fashion, lifestyle, and franchise sectors. The book examines structural shifts in the communications industry and the growing pressure on agencies that rely on retainer contracts.
Rather than offer motivational guidance, the book focuses on business mechanics within the profession. Pearson argues that the long-standing retainer model is unstable and that many publicists struggle to align visibility with revenue as media systems change.
“PR is not dead. The version of PR that was never designed to make you wealthy is. There is a difference, and this book is about learning to tell them apart,” Pearson wrote in the book.
The publication targets agency owners, communications professionals, and working publicists. It outlines what Pearson describes as structural flaws in common PR business models and proposes a shift toward positioning publicists as strategic authorities instead of service operators.

Pearson is the founder of Madison + Rodeo, a brand visibility studio serving founder-led luxury brands, and PR Clarity, a platform that provides diagnostics and advisory services for public relations firms navigating industry change. Earlier in her career, she launched Women in PR, a community created to support and connect women working in communications.
The new title follows Pearson’s earlier PR-focused book published in 2014 and continues her examination of how the profession evolves as technology and media distribution shift.
The release comes as public relations agencies confront rapid change tied to artificial intelligence tools, creator-driven media platforms, and shifting expectations from brand clients.
