NBA All-Star ’23 concluded last night, with Team Giannis coming out victorious. But one of the most trending topics, or names, this past weekend came after Saturday’s Slam Dunk Contest. Mac McClung.
The unsung hero who “saved the Dunk Contest” took home the Dr. J Trophy after a series of dunks that won us over as fans. But wait, who is Mac McClung? Well, if you’re a self-proclaimed “basketball head,” you would have already known that Mac was going to throw down. The internet sensation has been showcasing his electrifying dunks on YouTube since his Gate City High School Basketball days. Prior to his first All-Star Weekend appearance, McClung landed in Philadelphia and has been playing for the Sixers’ G-League affiliate. He impressed the 76ers enough that they offered him a two-way deal that would allow him to suit up if called upon this season.
Will McClung land a permanent roster spot on the NBA level now that more eyes are on him? We shall wait and see. In the meantime, check out his winning dunks from this past Saturday at All-Star Weekend that won everybody over. The social media reactions were elite as well.
