Pepsi Dig In is an initiative that promotes Black-owned restaurants and encourages people to support them. On August 19, known as Pepsi Dig In Day, diners are encouraged to visit these establishments. It’s part of National Black Business Month and aims to help these businesses thrive.
There are exciting marquee activities happening nationwide, including a block party featuring Pusha T, Alex Vaughn, Black Alley, DJ Five9 and DJ Money in Washington, D.C. to support local Black businesses, curated dinner events in collaboration with the James Beard Foundation, and Pepsi Dig In offering free meals at select restaurants with a total worth of $100,000.
Moreover, Pepsi Dig In is once again promoting a campaign to inspire gastronomes to showcase their appreciation on social media. Participants are encouraged to share an image of their meal from a Black-owned restaurant, while tagging the establishment and Pepsi Dig In. This grants them the opportunity to win a substantial sum of $5,000 for indulging in their preferred Black-owned restaurants, as well as activating a $5,000 donation to the restaurant.
“Our goal for Pepsi Dig In has always been to celebrate and generate awareness for Black-owned restaurants, not just on Pepsi Dig In Day, but all year long,” says Scott Finlow, Chief Marketing Officer of PepsiCo Global Foodservice. “This year, we’re turning up the flavor and excitement with the support of renowned partners like the James Beard Foundation and events like our Washington D.C. block party where people can indulge in delicious food, cheer on talented chefs, and soak up the vibrant culture that accompanies every dish.”
Additional Pepsi Dig In Programming
Beyond Dig In Day, Pepsi Dig In is also encouraging diners to visit or order in from Black-owned restaurants throughout the month of August by:
- In August, the James Beard Foundation will feature four Black chefs with week-long residencies at Platform in NYC. The chefs will showcase their skills through live cooking demonstrations, special dining experiences, and workshops. The chefs highlighted are John Cleveland from Post & Beam, Shenarri Freeman from Cadence, Ricky Moore from Saltbox Seafood Joint, and Maya-Camille Broussard from Justice of the Pies. Pepsi Dig In and JBF will provide support to help these chefs succeed.
- During Pepsi Dig In Corporate Week from August 14 to 18, more than 40 corporate partners, including the National Football League and the National Basketball Association, are teaming up to sponsor lunches from Black-owned restaurants. Some of the companies involved are the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Blackhawks, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Other partners include the James Beard Foundation and Intersport.
