In a groundbreaking celebration of Black excellence, Urban Magazine proudly announces that country music star Elsie graces the cover of the February 2026 issue, making history as the first artist of her genre to achieve this remarkable feat.
“I find Elsie to be a very authentic, soulful artist who pours her heart and soul into her music. She’s not one of these artists who decided to enter the genre because Beyoncé made it cool for people who previously ignored it,” explains the magazine’s publisher, Be’n Original.
Despite its contemporary perception, Black musicians played a foundational role in creating what became country music. It developed in the American South in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It drew from African American blues, spirituals, and work songs. The banjo, now central to country, originated in West Africa and was brought to the Americas by enslaved Africans.
Additionally, this issue includes riveting conversations with the amazing actress Brittany Inge from “The Ms. Pat Show,” “Black in Business” stars Amber Reign Smith and George Middlebrook, and inspiring poet and activist Khayree Lilly.
The renowned poetry section, coveted buyer’s guide, and an exclusive first look at the highly anticipated blockbuster film Crime 101, featuring the star-studded cast of Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, complete the issue.
