Originally punished by the NFL with a two game suspension, the Baltimore Ravens have officially terminated their contract with Ray Rice today.
According to NFL guidelines, any NFL team can elect to terminate a player’s contract at any time.
The decision was made after TMZ released a video showing the running back knocking out then girlfriend, now wife Janay Rice, in elevator.
Ray Rice initially received a two game suspension when video emerged of him dragging the unconscious woman out of the elevator in February.
The two subsequently married in March despite outcry from the general public.
After the backlash from Rice’s initial punishment, the league later increased the penalty for domestic violence to include a six month suspension for the first offense and a lifetime ban for a secondary infraction.
