Cardi B to Receive ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award at June 8 Ceremony

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers announced Tuesday that Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B will receive the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award during a private event in Los Angeles on June 8.

The honor, which recognizes ASCAP members who influence music and culture through their work, follows a series of milestones for Cardi B. The Bronx-born artist made history in 2020 as the first woman to win the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year Award two consecutive years. Her accolades also include eight ASCAP Pop Music Awards and 23 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

“Cardi B has left an indelible mark on the culture of hip-hop by redefining and challenging the norms for women,” ASCAP Chairman and President Paul Williams said in a statement. “She continues to use her voice to advocate for and inspire others.”

Usher received the same award in 2023.

Cardi B, whose debut album Invasion of Privacy became a streaming and sales juggernaut, remains the highest-certified female rapper on the RIAA’s digital singles list. The 2018 album includes the diamond-certified single “Bodak Yellow” and is the most-streamed album by a female rap artist on Spotify. All 13 tracks are certified platinum or higher.

Her list of career honors includes nine Grammy nominations, eight Billboard Music Awards, six Guinness World Records, and 14 BET Hip Hop Awards. She was included in TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2018 and named Billboard’s Woman of the Year in 2020.

Cardi B was named Playboy’s first Creative Director in Residence in 2021. In 2024, she released “Like What (Freestyle)” and “Enough (Miami)” and appeared on Rob 49’s “On Dat Money” and the remix of Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla’s “Wanna Be.”

The ASCAP event will celebrate top hip-hop, R&B, and gospel songwriters. Attendance is by invitation only.
