Chris Brown Arrested in UK, Charged in 2023 London Nightclub Assault

Chris Brown was arrested early Thursday at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, stemming from an alleged assault at a London nightclub in February 2023.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 36-year-old man was taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m. local time on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. The arrest relates to an incident at Tape nightclub in Hanover Square, where music producer Amadou “Abe” Diaw alleges Brown struck him multiple times with a Don Julio 1942 tequila bottle, followed by punches and kicks, resulting in hospitalization.

Diaw filed a civil lawsuit in October 2023, seeking £12 million (approximately $16 million) in damages for injuries and ongoing physical repercussions from the attack.

Adele Kelly, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London North, stated: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.”

Brown remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The arrest comes ahead of Brown’s “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, set to begin June 15 in Manchester.

Brown, 36, has a history of legal issues, including a 2009 felony assault conviction for attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna, a 2013 felony assault in Washington, D.C., and a 2017 restraining order obtained by ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran.

Representatives for Brown and Diaw have not commented on the latest charges.
