A new partnership aimed at expanding financial literacy across Miami-Dade’s underserved neighborhoods officially launched Wednesday at Red Rooster in historic Overtown.
Tech Knowledge, a community-driven nonprofit founded by music executive Ted Lucas, teamed up with Dade County Federal Credit Union, Kredit Academy, and Edward Jones to introduce a practical and accessible financial literacy program. The initiative seeks to deliver real-world tools to help participants strengthen their financial futures.
The program includes free access to Kredit Quest, a gamified app designed to make learning about money management engaging for users of all ages. In addition, Dade County Federal Credit Union announced a $50,000 Community Savings Match Fund, pledging to match savings for individuals who open new accounts.
“This is about more than tech—it’s about transformation,” Lucas said at the launch event. “We’re using innovation not just to build apps, but to shift power and access into the hands of our community.”
Choosing Overtown for the launch was intentional, Lucas said, symbolizing a connection between the community’s history and its future. “We’re investing in the future by honoring the past,” he said.
Tech Knowledge operates as part of The Source Groups and focuses on establishing South Florida as a national hub for Black tech, education, and entrepreneurship. The organization aims to blend Silicon Valley strategies with grassroots initiatives to build economic equity from the ground up.
