Golden State’s Stephen Curry Wins NBA’s Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the 2024-25 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year, the NBA announced Monday.

The award, presented annually since the 2012-13 season, honors the player who best exemplifies selfless play, leadership on and off the court, mentorship, and dedication to the team. It is named for Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, whose bond extended beyond their playing careers.

Curry, a 16-year NBA veteran, earned the honor for the first time. He previously received the NBA Sportsmanship Award in the 2010-11 season, which recognizes fair play and integrity on the court.

A panel of league executives selected 12 finalists for the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award, with six players representing each conference. Current NBA players voted on the winner from that group of finalists.

Curry, an 11-time All-Star, two-time NBA MVP and the league’s career leader in three-pointers made, has played his entire career with Golden State. He has won four NBA championships with the franchise.

The award’s namesakes, Twyman and Stokes, were teammates on the Rochester and Cincinnati Royals from 1955 to 1958. Stokes sustained a brain injury in the final game of the 1957-58 regular season, resulting in paralysis. Twyman became his legal guardian and organized efforts to support Stokes, including founding the Maurice Stokes Memorial Basketball Game to assist players in need.

Stokes was posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004, following Twyman’s efforts. Twyman entered the Hall of Fame in 1983 and died in 2012.

The complete voting results for this year’s Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award are available on the NBA’s website.
