Higher Purpose Hub will break ground Thursday on a new regional economic opportunity center in downtown Clarksdale, marking the start of a project aimed at expanding entrepreneurship, workforce development, wellness, and cultural opportunities across the Mississippi Delta.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at 238 Issaquena Ave. The event also will launch Higher Purpose Fest, the organization’s annual celebration of food, music, and wellness, which runs Aug. 6-8.
The project is supported by a grant of more than $2.2 million from the Delta Regional Authority, with additional funding provided by foundations and private donors.
Plans call for the renovation of a historic downtown building into what Higher Purpose Hub describes as the region’s first economic opportunity center of its kind. The facility will provide business support, wellness services, access to fresh food, arts and cultural programming, and shared spaces for education and community events.
“This groundbreaking represents more than the start of construction; it represents our continued investment in people, place, and the future possibilities of the Mississippi Delta,” said Dr. Tim Lampkin, founder and executive director of Higher Purpose Hub.
Once completed, the center will include a bookstore, a public art gallery, and a regional hub for entrepreneurship and community development. Programming will include business education, workforce training, technical assistance, and access to capital for entrepreneurs throughout the Mississippi Delta.
Community members, nonprofit leaders, elected officials, project partners, and supporters from across the region are expected to attend the ceremony.
Higher Purpose Hub said the project reflects its mission to strengthen communities by expanding economic opportunity through entrepreneurship and innovation.
“The Delta Regional Authority is pleased to support the Higher Purpose Hub, a regional economic opportunity center enhancing the financial, physical, and cultural well-being of the Mississippi Delta,” said DRA Executive Director Laura Veazey. “Through this investment, communities across the Delta will have access to a wide range of services, including business education, workforce training, and preventive health care, in one centralized location.”
The new center is intended to serve residents across the Mississippi Delta by bringing business development, community resources, and cultural programming together under one roof, creating a regional destination designed to support long-term economic growth and community development.
