Ice Cube, Nia Long Return for Third ‘Are We There Yet?’ Film

More than 20 years after audiences first met Nick Persons, Ice Cube is returning to the role in a new film in the “Are We There Yet?” franchise.

Skydance Sports, a division of Paramount Skydance, announced it is developing “Are They Gone Yet?,” the third movie in the series. Ice Cube and Nia Long will reprise their roles as Nick Persons and Suzanne Kingston.

The new film follows Nick as he faces a new stage of family life: becoming a grandparent.

The movie is being produced by Broken Road Productions and CubeVision. Ice Cube, Todd Garner, and Jeff Kwatinetz are producers. Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana are writing the screenplay.

“We built something special with this franchise. Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies,” Ice Cube said in a statement. “Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation is exactly the kind of move CubeVision was built for, and I am excited for the new partnership.”

The announcement is one of the largest comedy projects acquired by Skydance Sports since the creation of Paramount Skydance following the merger of Skydance Media and Paramount Global in August 2025.

The first film, “Are We There Yet?,” was released in 2005 and opened at No. 1 at the U.S. box office. It earned $97.9 million worldwide.

The sequel, “Are We Done Yet?,” was released in 2007 and earned $58.3 million worldwide. Together, the two films grossed more than $156 million worldwide.

The franchise later expanded to television with the sitcom “Are We There Yet?” on TBS. The series starred Terry Crews and aired from 2010 to 2013. It ran for 100 episodes over four seasons.

In the original films, Nick’s life changes when he begins a relationship with Suzanne, a single mother of two children. The movies followed the family’s challenges as they built a life together.

Ben Hurwitz and Lauren Gennawey are executive producers on the new film.

Additional casting, production details, and release information will be announced later.
