After being sentenced 2-4 years due to a prison violation, Meek Mill, was sent away to prison. As word got out, fans went social media crazy with “Free Meek Mill” posts! Today, however, news broke out – via Philly.com – that Meek’s lawyers are now filing an emergency motion to free him from jail.
“Tuesday’s motion, filed with the state Superior Court, asks for the 30-year-old Mill to be released immediately on bail, contending that Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Genece E. Brinkley has not responded to any of their post-sentencing appeals.
“As of this filing, more than 10 days after submission [Brinkley] has taken no action — not even to schedule a hearing — on any petitioner’s motions, and in particular not on the bail motion,” the emergency habeas corpus petition says.
The motion describes Mill — born Robert Williams — as being in a “Catch-22” situation: He can’t appeal his conviction and sentence to the Superior Court until Brinkley rules on his post-sentence motions, and she “refuses to do so.”
Updates on this are now pending.
It’s been said that Al Sharpton paid Meek a visit and described Meek to be “determined to be a voice for the voiceless.”
