Katt Williams Stars in TextNow Campaign Challenging Traditional Wireless Plans

Comedian Katt Williams is the face of a new national advertising campaign from app-based wireless provider TextNow, which launched Tuesday with a message encouraging consumers to reconsider traditional cellphone plans.

The campaign, titled “Way Too Smart To Pay Dumb,” features Williams using his trademark comedic style to criticize long-term contracts, hidden fees, and higher-priced wireless plans. The ads position TextNow as an alternative for consumers seeking lower-cost connectivity without conventional carrier commitments.

The campaign also incorporates the late rapper Nipsey Hussle’s song “U See Us,” connecting themes of ownership, independence, and self-determination. TextNow said those themes reflect both Williams’ career and the company’s mission.

In a statement, Williams said the campaign encourages consumers to take greater control over their wireless service.

“TextNow is for people who aim to be the boss in every aspect of their lives. It’s for those who dare to do things differently and refuse to let systems or any bill call the shots,” Williams said. “No one should be out here overpaying to stay connected in today’s ever-connected society when smarter options like TextNow exist. Say goodbye to those intentionally confusing contracts designed to keep you locked in and overpaying for wireless services because TextNow is proving that staying connected doesn’t mean giving up control, and that’s what being too smart to pay dumb is about.”

The campaign is rolling out nationwide across digital and other media platforms.

The commercial is available to view on YouTube.
