Filmmaker Christopher Nolan will bring Homer’s ancient Greek epic to the big screen this summer with “The Odyssey,” a large-scale production shot across multiple countries using new IMAX film technology.
The studio said the film will open in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026, marking the first time the story has been adapted specifically for IMAX.
Described as a mythic action epic, “The Odyssey” reimagines the foundational tale of Odysseus’ long journey home following the Trojan War. The project continues Nolan’s focus on practical filmmaking techniques and large-format visuals, a hallmark of his recent work.
The cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o. Zendaya and Charlize Theron also appear.
Homer’s “Odyssey,” composed more than two millennia ago, remains one of the most influential works in Western literature, chronicling themes of perseverance, identity and homecoming.
Further details about the film’s plot and character portrayals have not been released.
