A former certified nursing assistant at a Rochester nursing home has been charged with assaulting an elderly resident, leaving him injured and requiring hospital treatment, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday.
C’Vanna Gibson, 24, of Rochester, was arrested and arraigned in Rochester City Court on charges stemming from an alleged Dec. 11, 2025, attack at Kirkhaven nursing home.
According to the attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Gibson entered the resident’s room at about 3:30 a.m. and allegedly grabbed his arm and pushed him onto the bed. Authorities said the incident caused a large skin tear, bleeding, and bruising.
She also is accused of grabbing and twisting the resident’s genitals and throwing liquid in his face, according to prosecutors.
The resident was taken to a hospital after the incident and reported the allegations to the Rochester Police Department. Police conducted an initial investigation before referring the case to the attorney general’s office.
Gibson was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a felony, and willful violation of health laws, a misdemeanor.
She pleaded not guilty during her arraignment before Rochester City Court Judge Melissa Barrett. If convicted of the most serious charge, Gibson could face a maximum prison sentence of 1⅓ to four years.
“Every New Yorker living in a nursing home deserves safe and compassionate care,” James said in a statement, calling the alleged conduct “despicable.”
James said her office has conducted investigations statewide aimed at preventing abuse and neglect in nursing homes and holding people accountable for endangering vulnerable residents.
The attorney general’s office thanked Rochester police for assisting with the investigation. Detectives Ahd Almansoob and Stephen Sachman investigated the case under the supervision of Detective Supervisor Stacey DiSanto, with assistance from Medical Analyst Jennifer Cronkhite.
Special Assistant Attorney Elizabeth Buckley is prosecuting the case for the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
The charges are allegations. Gibson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
