Thursday night, the 43rd annual BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival continued with an exhilarating benefit performance by legendary hip-hop band The Roots, presented by Live Nation.

The evening kicked off with R&B singer/songwriter Felicia Temple, who serenaded the crowd with her sultry vocals and smooth melodies. The songstress connected with the audience immediately, sharing that while she’s not originally from Brooklyn, it has always been a place that she calls home. The touching set included a powerful rendition of “Falling in Love Again,” a track Temple wrote for her husband.

Following Temple’s set, GRAMMY award-winning, hip-hop band The Roots took to the stage and immediately hyped up the audience with vocalist and co-founder Black Thought leading the charge and telling the crowd to “get their hands up!”

The renowned band’s high-energy was felt throughout the venue, with nearly everyone rising to their feet and dancing along. The performance included variations of the band’s hit songs “The Seed” and “You Got Me,” as well as renditions of classic fan-favorites “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” by Old Dirty Bastard and DMX’s “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem,” much to the crowds’ delight who began to sing along. The rousing performance was punctuated with Black Thought asking the audience “Can you dig it?” to which the crowd roared in response.

The BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival will continue through September 18th with upcoming performances including Wizkid, D-Nice with special guests, A Tribute to Biggie Smalls, Glass Animals, Skip Marley, Vijay Iyer, Rita Indiana, Mr. Eazi, Trombone Shorty, Junglepussy, Yaeji, and more!
