Latto discussed pregnancy, music collaborations, criticism, and motherhood during an appearance on “Hot Ones,” where she also shared how a seafood boil may have helped send her into labor.
Speaking with host Sean Evans, the rapper said recording while pregnant often left her short of breath, even after walking into the studio booth. She also dealt with frequent bathroom breaks that interrupted sessions.
Latto said the experience changed her recording routine but did not stop her from making music.
She also explained why she usually does not charge artists for guest verses, saying she prefers to collaborate when she genuinely likes the song or has a relationship with the artist.
“If you have to pay me to do the feature, I feel like I shouldn’t be doing the feature,” Latto said. “We’re supposed to be making art.”
Evans also revisited an older comment in which Latto said she would one day be “Beyoncé to these bitches.”
Latto said she did not remember what prompted the remark and joked about having to revisit statements made years earlier.
“There’s only one Beyoncé, so we’ll just pretend I didn’t say that,” she said.
The rapper also said criticism tends to motivate her instead of slowing her down. She described negative comments as fuel that gives her another reason to prove people wrong.
Later in the interview, Latto said she ordered a spicy seafood boil the night before her due date because she hoped it would help start labor. Less than an hour later, she said, her water broke.
“So shoutout to seafood boils,” Latto said.
