Spurs Disagreed With Josh Primo Allegations Made by Former Team Psychiatrist

Dr. Hillary Cauthen

Yet another NBA team making headlines for all the wrong reasons. What is up with this season?

The latest news centers on former San Antonio Spurs team psychiatrist, Dr. Hillary Cauthen. Cauthen has accused former Spurs player, Josh Primo, of indecent exposure, and called out the organization for ignoring her repeated reports – which date as far back as December 2021!

During a press conference, Cauthen revealed details that she first reported the incident in January of 2022 but did not get a meeting with the GM, Brian Wright, until March of 2022. When the meeting finally took place, she was told that an internal investigation would commence. They, however, failed to suspend Primo, and Cauthen was still responsible for providing treatment to Primo and other players.

Primo’s misconduct reportedly escalated to the point Cauthen would do her best to avoid sessions with him. Cauthen later had another meeting with Spurs Counsel, Brandon James, as well as head of HR, Kara Allen, who promised they’d set up a “facilitated discussion.” But it never happened.

Months later, Cauthen filed a lawsuit against the team as a response to the lack of action by the Spurs after several complaints and accusations as well as the non-renewal of her contract with the organization. Furthermore, the lawsuit lists two other incidents of indecent exposure by Primo. This eventually led to the Spurs’ waiving of Primo before the media was able to report on it.

In the midst of all the news surfacing, Primo released a statement of his own, via his attorney, William J. Briggs.

Regardless of the outcome, this is not a good look for the Spurs. With the Celtics dealing with their own issues with Coach Ime Udoka’s misconduct at the start of the season, this is the last thing the League needs. But then again, maybe everything is coming to light, revealing a bigger issue that NEEDS to be addressed and fixed in the NBA. Stay tuned in for story developments..
