On Thursday evening, Tory Lanez took to Twitter to break his silence after a two-month hiatus from social media after the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion.

After the shocking tweet, former fans were under the impression they would receive an explanation per an Instagram live or possibly even a well written statement.

Unfortunately, Lanez once again disappointed many of his fans and used the opportunity for his own gain. At 9pm PST as he promised, he took to Instagram to make his long-awaited announcement.

Instead of an apology or confession that was expected, Tory Lanez chose to use his moment for clarity to promote his new project Daystar, which throughout according to reports, he denies shooting Megan and attacks her credibility.

On the opening track “Money Over Fallouts”, the R&B singer seemingly plays into the common narratives that have been floated on the internet since the shooting.

“Gotta see a couple questions / How the f— you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons? / How the f— your team is trying to pay me in some whole millions? / I just lost like 10 million dollars because this cold business / But I got like 10 million followers that’s gon’ roll with me / Fans that support me because they know my heart.”

If that wasn’t enough, he attempts to portray himself as someone who champions Black women.

“I refuse to be the poster boy for Black women I’m protecting / My momma Black, my sister Black, my baby momma Black / So how the f— I’m unaffected? / Black women fueled my career for years, so don’t make me some type of tier of unperfection [sic].”

After recent events highlighting the disrespect and indifference toward Black women in media and in everyday life; Tory Lanez’s attempt to monetize Megan Thee Stallion’s suffering takes it new heights.
