After three months of what seems like no progress, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been charged with assault following a dispute between himself and Houston rap star Megan Thee Stallion. The indictment has been the long-awaited answer fans have been waiting for following the confusing past months.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that Tory Lanez has been charged with one felony count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and another for carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in the vehicle. If convicted, he can face twenty-two years and eight months in prison. Even though he was arrested the night of the event, he was quickly released on bond.

According to Megan Thee Stallion, the issue began on July 12 in Hollywood Hills when the two artists were together leaving an party at the home of Kylie Jenner. Tory Lanez, Megan, his security and a mutual friend were in a vehicle when an altercation began.

During an Instagram Live video, Megan responded to denials she believed came from Tory’s camp and identified him as the shooter. According to her, she exited the vehicle with hopes of ending the dispute and Lanez started shooting in her direction. The incident left Megan Thee Stallion with multiple wounds to her feet in need of an emergency surgery.

In the emotional Instagram video, she explains how the recent series of incidents of police brutality influenced her decision to not immediate identify him as the shooter when law enforcement arrived.

Tory Lanez chose to stay silent for two months until the surprise release of his sixth studio album DAYSTAR at midnight on September 24th, where he expressed his side of the story.

Megan Thee Stallion’s name is not named in the release, but the details of the charges are strikingly similar to her version of the event.

Tory Lanez is scheduled for arraignment on October 13th and the case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Hollywood Division.
