WTF: Drake Drops 5AM, Black Media Sites Fuel Beefs

Drake

As an African American, I detest when black or urban writers try to create trouble where likely none exists. This 5AM  shit is a prime example.

The assholes at certain sites couldn’t just write a review or news piece on  Drake’s new single because that would be too much like journalism.

Instead,  they chose to create trouble by taking almost everything the Young Money artist said and  interpreting his lines as disses toward  other noteworthy celebrities.

SOHH.com  ran coverage with the following headline: Drake Fires Shots At The Weeknd, Chris Brown, Rihanna & More [Audio].  The  source for this article was The Boom Box.

“I show love, never get the same out of n*ggas/ Guess it’s funny how money can make change out of n*ggas/ For real, some nobody started feeling himself/ A couple somebodies started killing themself/ A couple albums dropped those are still on the shelf/ I bet them sh*t would have popped if I was willing to help,” they say is making reference to an unverifiable dispute between Drake and The Weeknd.

Okay, that may be a plausible conclusion but…

“I’m headed to the bank n*gga/ Sinatra lifestyle, I’m just being Frank, n*gga,” doesn’t remotely read like a diss to Common as the article states.

And …

“Where you think she at when she ain’t with you?/ Wildin’, doin’ sh*t that’s way out of your budget/ Owl sweaters inside her luggage, you gotta love it/ D*mn, this sh*t could go on a tape,” is far from a shot at Rihanna and can’t possibly be a reference to Chris Brown. Remember CB is far from broke.  Where’s the connection?  Drake can be talking about anyone in the 99%.

My point is that the accused are no more journalists than that nosy ass hood rat you know from the block who gossips about everyone else while doing nothing to better her life. Except in this case,  we become her peers  by simply visiting these unethical sites that broadcast self-hatred and division in exchange for traffic. Did we really learn nothing from the media’s role in the East Coast / West Coast feud? Everything is fine until somebody dies.  At least Vibe had a reasonable point of  reference but this article is speculation at best. SOHH and The Boom Box are far from the worst offenders.

We have to do better people.  All of us. That is all.
