Award-winning producer The-Dream discussed his work with Beyoncé and plans for new music during an appearance on the “Ebro, Laura, and Rosenberg Show.”
Hosts Ebro Darden, Laura Stylez, and Peter Rosenberg first asked the producer about golf before turning to his role in Beyoncé’s GRAMMY-winning album Cowboy Carter. At the 35:20 mark, The-Dream described the singer’s studio work ethic and said he values her ideas when shaping songs.
“She’s going to work and outwork you,” he said. “[She’ll] stay there all morning, and wait for you to get back [to continue working.]”
The hosts asked about the album’s mix of blues, rock, R&B and country influences. The-Dream said his favorite track is “Oh Louisiana,” calling it a tribute to Chuck Berry and a reflection of the album’s influences.
Rosenberg also asked about the song “Bodyguard.” The-Dream said Raphael Saadiq brought the record to the studio.
Later in the interview, The-Dream discussed his next project. At the 43:00 mark, he said he plans to release LoveHate2 around his birthday in the fall, his first mainstream album since IV Play in 2013.
He also described his songwriting approach.
“I put myself in the perspective of the ice cream they’re trying to sell to the customers… eventually becoming the artists themselves,” he said.
The-Dream said his first songwriting placement came with “Everything” by B2K in 2002. Near the end of the interview, he suggested new music may come from Beyoncé and Rihanna. At the 52:00 mark, he said Beyoncé has music “in the stockpile.”
At the 59:00 mark, he praised Rihanna’s music instincts. He said the singer is “one of the best A&Rs ever,” citing her ear for selecting songs.
