Akon And Former Kedar Massenburg Form Akonik Label Group

Bona-fide global superstar Akon and former CEO and President of Motown Records worldwide, Kedar Massenburg have co-founded The Akonik Label Group (ALG). This is the first time ever an artist has established a multi-national, multi-cultural label group. The newly formed label group will be distributed globally by BMG and will maintain offices in New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

The Label Group is comprised of four record labels, Akonda, Akonik, Ke Lo Ke, and Jamakon, that will be signing and promoting artists from different regions in the world.

The Akonda label will host a repertoire of Afro Beats talent. Akonik record label will concentrate on signing and promoting talent in the U.S. and Europe. The Ke Lo Ke label will promote the sounds and culture of Latin America inclusive of Mexico and Puerto Rico. and Jamakon, the Caribbean label will concentrate on signing and developing artists from that region.

Their vision for each label is to sign, market and promote the most talented regional artists, engage a core following and ultimately provide them with a global platform to achieve broader success.

Akon and Massenburg first met when Akon was an artist under a joint venture with Universal/Motown/SRC. Akon went on to sell over 35 million albums worldwide, receive five Grammy nominations and collaborate with a stellar group of artists that include Eminem, Gwen Stefani, Dr. Dre, Daddy Yankee, Lil’ Wayne, Michael Jackson, Ozuna, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Young Jeezy and many more. Additionally, Akon played an integral role in launching Lady GaGa when he signed her to his former KonLive imprint.
