Black Women on Starz’s Run The World

run the world starz

Run the World, Starz’s new Black women led comedy debuted a few weeks ago and we wanted to get first thoughts from successful women in the entertainment industry.

The series centers on a quartet of professional and creative women, portrayed by Amber Stevens West, Andrea Bordeaux, Bresha Webb and Corbin Webb, navigating their way through personal and professional experiences in Harlem, New York, all while trying to remain the best of friends.

Here’s what some of our favorite people had to say:

“As a Black woman and business professional, I love to see examples of myself reflected in modern film/television especially within corporate workforce. It’s no secret historically we have been either underrepresented or misrepresented when it comes to the media so to see us as we are thriving and dominating within our fields beyond the stereotypical roles is refreshing.”  – Brandi Sims, Publicist/CEO, Brandinc PR

“This show brings dope energy and visuals of young black women in friendship and life!” -Sharna Jenkins, Screenwriter, Director, & Producer

“Here’s my take on that show. A bad version of Sex and the City with bad acting.” – Anje Collins, Veteran Publicist, CEO of Coco Blue Shoes

“Run the World has the perfect opportunity to present in the visual space the beauty, complexity, the richness of four black women’s narratives refreshingly and entertainingly.” – Nadhedge Ptah (Actress/Filmmaker)

“Run the World is such a refreshing series! It was about time we had something so easy, funny and relatable to watch. I can’t wait to watch every single episodes. Renee might be my favorite already or is it Ella, the beautiful, promising independent black woman. They are all so pretty and each of their storyline is so on point. I am already hooked.” – Deborah Celimene (Deb TV/Serial Entrepreneur)

“Just finished watching the three episodes of the series thus far. I’m instantly captured by that good Spike Lee vibe in film when watching it. This show has me intrigued over its rawness and the reality of topics discussed among black women when it comes to the dating world. I also enjoy the freedom of sexuality in the show where they just don’t hold back. Very unapologetic. I look forward to the rest of the series.” – Tanisha D., Publisher of Femi Magazine
