Earlier this week, the city of Brooklyn honored the iconic rapper Christopher Wallace with his very own street name.

Known as The Notorious B.I.G, the hip hop legend’s foundation partnered with the office of The New York City Council Majority Leader Laurie A. Cumbo to host and celebrate the new street co-naming, Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace Way.

Located at the intersection of Fulton Street and St. James Place, the new street name took place where the rapper was born and grew up. In attendance was Wallace’s mother Voletta, both of his children, rapper Lil Kim, and also hundreds of fans.

People from all across the country showed up to commemorate the artist’s legacy, despite the massive rain shower that ensued. Kicking the event off was Wayne Barrow, co-chairman of The Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation and Biggie’s former manager.

Barrow stated, “We appreciate the overwhelming show of love and support. I know ya’ll standing in the rain but that’s just Biggie crying on us, happy that we’re standing on this street recognizing him.”

Laurie A. Cumbo spoke of how Biggie’s influence helped to shape the borough’s legacy. “Biggie Smalls created the soundtrack of inspiration that gave us the growth and ability to create success in Brooklyn,” said Cumbo.

Christopher Wallace Jr. and Lil Kim also made statements during the ceremony. “I’ve always known this day was going to come; I used to dream about a street being named after Biggie because it was only right.”

The final comments were made by Ms. Voletta Wallace, who passionately thanked everyone who came to show their love and support. “This street is going to be a love street, people are going to come here and are going to know that a young man, my son was here” she proudly stated.

Ms. Wallace, Christopher Jr., Wayne Barrow, and Lil Kim all presented the new street sign together. Hot 97’s DJ Enuff then played Biggie’s hit, “Hypnotize” as everyone celebrated.
